A Brigham Young University emeritus professor of social work was recently recognized as "Social Worker of the Year" by the Utah Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers.

Barbara R. Wheeler directed BYU's school of social work from 1988 to 1994. She helped found the Women's Faculty Association and is involved in many civic activities."It was easy for me to see her as someone who over a long period of time contributed both clinically and in community service and social work education," said Judy Norman, an assistant professor of social work.

Although she has retired from BYU, Wheeler still teaches one class a year and has a private clinical practice in Park City. She also serves on several boards and works with several universities, Norman said.
