The mother of a teenage boy says a Blanding city councilman hit her son. He denies it.
Helen Johnson of White Mesa told the council at its weekly meeting Wednesday, "A parent hit my son and this parent is on the City Council and I feel he shouldn't be because of what he did."Stan Perkins denied hitting the youth.
Mark Maryboy, a San Juan County Commissioner and member of the Utah Civil Rights Commission said he would bring the matter before the civil-rights group.
The boy is part Ute and part Navajo, although no racism allegations have been made.
Perkins said the incident began when his two daughters came home from the Albert R. Lyman Middle School on March 29 and told him three boys had attacked them during a water fight. Perkins said he approached one of them, touched him on the shoulder and said he was taking him to the police station.
Johnson said witnesses told her Perkins stopped his car in the street and "hit my son."
Blanding Police Chief Mike Halliday said Perkins did bring the youth to the station.
