A West Valley man was charged with attempted murder Wednesday after another man was stabbed several times Sunday following a campfire spat over religion.

The man, 42, was drinking beer and roasting hot dogs with friends in a field near 1274 W. Parkway Ave. (2455 South) when the group started arguing about religion, according to a 3rd Circuit Court report. After being told to "shut up," the defendant pulled out a knife and stabbed one of the men repeatedly in the throat and chest, the report said.

He remains in Salt Lake County Jail against $25,000 bail.
