The sixth annual Coca-Cola, Utah Jazz Roundball Ruckus gets underway May 30, at the South Towne Center and continues though June 3.

Roundball Ruckus is a three-on-three basketball tournament for players of all ages and all skills. The five-day hoop festival is expected to draw 2,000 teams featuring 8,000 players and up to 50,000 spectators.For a team fee of $80, players are guaranteed at least three games in a double-elimination, round-robin format. Games are played in 20 or 30 minutes and scoring is by ones with two points awarded for shots beyond 19 feet.

All participants will receive an official Roundball Ruckus T-shirt and other goodies provided by sponsors including free hot dogs, ice cream and Coca-Cola products at the pre-Ruckus check-in party on May 30.

"The Ruckus attracts current, former and hopeful jocks ages 10-99 as well as any stiffs who just want to pound the pavement for a week of fun and games," said Dan Cramer, event organizer.

Sponsors include the Deseret News, 7-Eleven, Smith's, Hardee's Fox 13 and KISN 97 and SportsRadio 570.

Teams will play two games either Wednesday, Thursday or Friday and then all day Saturday depending on how the team is doing. In addition to the tournament, there will be three-point and free throw shooting contests and, of course, the slam dunk contests for 14 and younger, six feet and under and over six feet.

Over 100 referees participated in last years tournament with all the 10-15 year-old courts bein refereed.

Proceeds will benefit the Utah Chapter of the Muscular Dystrophy Assocation and Sandy Partners in Edcuation.

Entry forms are available at all 7-Eleven, Smith's and Hardee's locations and players who have participated previously will receive an application in the mail.
