3.7 EARTHQUAKE RATTLES AREA OF SOUTHWEST UTAH

An earthquake measuring 3.7 magnitude rattled a remote section of southwestern Utah Thursday afternoon, but there were no reports of damage.

The epicenter of the shock was in Dog Valley, 10 miles southwest of Circleville and 17 miles southeast of Beaver, the University of Utah Seismograph Stations reported.Seismologist Jim Pechmann said the quake occurred in a seismically active part of the state and was not considered unusual.

On Sept. 6, 1994, a quake measuring 4.3 magnitude was recorded.

Iron County sheriff's dispatcher Mary Patterson said there had been no reports of damage or of the quake having been felt.
