Volunteers gathered recently at the Clark H. Cushing Heritage Center in Murray for the Literacy Action Center's Fourth Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon.

Volunteers for the center, which is dedicated to teaching adult basic reading, writing and spelling skill, clocked in close to 15,000 hours of tutoring time this past year."We're very proud of our generous volunteers," said Eileen Smart, director of the program. "I'm impressed by their willingness to give of their time to our community."

The luncheon included the presentation of the June Moss Service Award, named for the founder of the center. The award was presented to longtime volunteer Marlene Helland of Salt Lake City. Helland donated 400 hours of volunteer service.
