LaVerne Johnson Briggs, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed away Friday, April 28, 1995, from pneumonia at the age of 75, after a life of devotion and service to others.

LaVerne was born July 25, 1919 in Elmo, Utah, to Hildur Elizabeth and John Ivan Johnson. She married David Floyd Briggs, July 21, 1943 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They have resided in Bountiful, Utah for the last 40 years. After 52 years of a wonderful marriage, Dave will miss her dearly. She was an active member of the LDS Church and served diligently in several leadership and teaching positions. She worked at Mountain Bell for a total of 23 1/2 years and was honored for perfect attendance for the last 14. LaVerne loved to read and play the piano. She was a member of DUP and had a special association for 50 years with the LAGS, her Gleaner class of 1944.There was nothing she loved more than serving and enjoying time with her family. Her children are very thankful for being raised by such wonderful parents and have appreciated the kindness, caring and example that are a dear part of our mother. We loved her very much. Her grandchildren want her to know that they loved her dearly and especially the tender and special things she did for them.

We will all miss gathering with Mother for family parties and memory moments. We will miss her very much!

LaVerne is survived by her husband and four children: Janice (Daniel A.) Sims, Bountiful; JoAnn (D. Howard) Olson, Bountiful; David L. (Debbie Kimball) Briggs, Moreno Valley, California; and Joyce (Michael A.) Campbell, Centerville; 26 grandchildren; brothers: Clifton I. (Josephine) Johnson; Glendon E. (Bobette) Johnson; Marvin M. (Marilyn) Johnson; Franklin D. (Kathleen) Johnson; sisters: Genevieve (Robert V.) Knudsen; and Joyce (Wendell E.) Taylor. Preceded in death by a granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 1, 1995 at 12 noon in the Bountiful 13th Ward, 1356 North 650 East. Friends may call at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main, Sunday evening from 5-7 p.m. and Monday at the church from 10:30-11:30 a.m. prior to services. Interment - Bountiful City Cemetery.
