Elsie Catherine Johnson Wortley, age 98, died April 1, 1995.

She was born December 28, 1896, in Benjamin, Utah, to John and Edla Wilhelmina Lundell Johnson. Married Lawrence Wortley in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on October 3, 1945. Lawrence preceded her in death November 13, 1981.Elsie received her Bachelor of Arts degree at BYU and her masters degree at the University of California, Berkeley. She devoted her life to teaching, both in Utah at Riverton, Tooele and Payson High Schools and in California at Gridley, Fresno and Redding High Schools. She ended her teaching career in New Zealand where she taught at the Church College of New Zealand.

Elsie and her husband served in the LDS Church Building Program in Hawaii, New Zealand and Rochdale, England. She was active in the LDS Church, teaching and serving in many capacities, including Relief Society, Primary, Young Women and teaching Seminary.

She enjoyed genealogy, writing family histories, oil painting and hand crafts of various kinds.

Survivors: daughters, Agnes Aamodt and husband Corbett, Silver Spring, Maryland; Elizabeth Fullmer and husband Keith, LaVerkin, Utah; Alice May Buxton, Tremonton, Utah; 18 grandchildren, 71 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Vera Parkinson.

Preceded in death by a daughter, Ruth Schneiter; son-in-law, Odeen Buxton; five brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 4, 1995, at 12 noon in the Edgemont 3rd Ward Chapel, 350 East (Canyon Road) 2950 North, Provo, Utah, where friends may call Tuesday from 10:45-11:45 a.m. Interment, Provo City Cemetery.
