NOTABLE PERFORMANCES

Some of the notable performances in Utah high school athletics last week.

BASEBALL

BRANDON SMALLING, Cyprus: Powered the Pirates to a pair of victories this week by knocking in 11 runs. His three-run homer lifted Cyprus to a 10-6 win at West Friday. On Wednesday, the powerful Pirate belted a grand slam and a two-run homer to collect eight RBI in 14-10 win over Woods Cross.

KURT FLINDERS, Fremont: Led the Silver Wolves to a 12-3 win over Weber Friday by driving in three runs on a homer and two doubles.

ZACH HINCKLEY, Granger: His grand slam teamed with four RBI by teammate Shane Olsen powered the Lancers to a 16-5 win at Bingham Friday.

DAVID RICHES, Kearns: Drove in four runs as the Cougars blasted Hunter 13-3 Friday for Kearns' first region victory. Smacked two homers and had six RBI in 11-10 setback at West Jordan Tuesday.

KYLE WALKER, Orem: Slugged in three runs on two hits as Tigers outlasted American Fork 7-3 Friday.

CODY HUNTER, Mtn. View: Led the Bruins past Hillcrest 9-3 Friday with three RBI.

CODY KNUTESON, Pl. Grove: Knocked in four runs as the Vikings edged Payson 6-1 Friday.

RYAN BOWERS, Pine View: His grand slam helped the top-ranked Panthers paste Dixie 14-6 Friday.

JUSTIN FIELDER, Emery: Three-hit performance produced three RBI as Spartans spanked North Sanpete 11-3 Friday.

PRESTON JONES, Juab: Had a banner day as the Wasps swept a doubleheader with North Summit Friday. Finished with nine RBI on six hits - including three home runs.

LUKE ADAMS, Millard: Paced the Eagles to a twinbill triumph over South Summit Friday with two homers and six runs batted in.

BRIAN KIESEL, Manti: Threw a one-hitter, striking out 11, in game one, while teammate Kevin Callister drove in four runs in the second game as the Templars swept Grantsville Friday. Kiesel also had 11 strikeouts in Tuesday's 11-1 win over Juab.

CAREY JAQUES, Morgan: Cranked a three-run triple as the Trojans past Gunnison 5-2 Friday.

BUCKY ORTON, Kanab: Hurled a two-hitter as the Cowboys knocked off Grand 8-1 Friday. Had a grand slam Tuesday in 12-2 win at Beaver.

RYAN PENE, Grand: Knocked in five runs, courtesy of three hits, in a 15-5 win over Milford.

JEFF HEDMAN, Taylorsville: Two homers, including a grand slam, produced six RBI in Warriors' 11-7 victory over Bingham Thursday.

JON WIGHT, Viewmont: Collected three hits including a three-run homer as Vikings pounded Highland 21-5 Thursday. Teammate Ammon Pitt added three RBI for Viewmont.

REGGIE ANGER, Bear River: Hurler mowed down 13 Logan batters in 5-4 victory Thursday. Drove in four runs in 13-3 win over Ben Lomond Monday. Teammate Josh Marble had three RBI.

SCOTT WHITE, Tooele: Knocked in three runs as Buffaloes stampeded Granite 11-1 Thursday.

TRENT WELCH & MARK HASTEN, Jordan: Beetdigger bashers each collected three RBI in 14-4 win over Judge Thursday.

NATE BUCK, West: Drove in three runs in 9-6 triumph over Olympus Thursday.

JOE MAIO, Bingham: Had three RBI as Miners pasted West Jordan 9-2 Wednesday.

RUSTY RAINS, Alta: Knocked in three runs as Hawks soared to an 8-4 win over Orem Wednesday.

CORY JEPPSON, Box Elder: His three-run homer led the Bees past Ben Lomond 9-2 Wednesday.

JASON MAJOR, Mtn. Crest: Two-hit effort produced four runs in the Mustangs' 12-4 win over Sky View Wednesday.

TOM BRAMBLE, Murray: Collected three RBI in 11-2 jolting of Judge Wednesday.

KENNY KALAMA, Clearfield: Threw a no-hitter and struck out eight as Falcons blanked Fremont Tuesday. Teammate Ryan Burton ripped a three-run homer.

JEFF DUFFY, Layton: Pounded a bases-loaded triple in Lancers' 26-8 win over Weber Tuesday.

DUSTIN PEARCE, Hunter: Ripped a three-run homer in 11-3 win at Granger Tuesday.

ERIC BENTLEY, Am. Fork: Tossed as two-hitter in a 4-0 win over top-ranked Alta Tuesday.

J.D. REX, Murray: Knocked in four runs as the Spartans beat Granite 11-1 Tuesday.

BLAIR BINGHAM, Sp. Fork: Recorded five RBI in Dons' 15-5 pasting of Payson Tuesday.

MATT FELIX, Lehi: Had three RBI in Tuesday's 5-4 win over Wasatch.

MIKE MARQUEZ, Carbon: Threw a one-hit shutout, striking out 10, and had a two-run homer in 6-0 win over North Sanpete Tuesday.

WILL LARSEN, Morgan: Smacked three two-run homer to power the Trojans past North Summit 15-11 Tuesday.

SCOTT CURTIS, Grantsville: Led an offensive barrage with five RBI in 23-10 spanking of South Summit Tuesday. Greg Bleazard added four more runs batted in.

CHET WALL, West Jordan: Two doubles knocked in three runs as Jags handed Granger an 8-3 setback Monday.

TYLER PERRY, Alta: Hit a game-winning three-run homer in 13-10 win over Mountain View Monday.

NATE BLOTTER, Mtn. Crest: Drove in three runs Monday as 'Stangs pounded Logan 13-2.

JEFF CLUFF, Tooele: Had three RBI Monday as Buffs blasted Murray 13-4. Pitcher Scott Pratt recorded 12 strikeouts.

BRIAN ELLY, West: Knocked in three runs as Panthers whipped rival East 8-2 Monday.

MATT HAMLIN, Cedar City: Goalkeeper kept top-ranked Pine View scoreless in regulation of eventual 2-1 shootout triumph Friday.

BRANDON PETERSON, Layton: Slipped two shots past the goalie in 4-1 upset of Clearfield Friday.

JASON ROBERTS, Viewmont: Scored twice as the Vikings blitzed rival Davis 3-1 Friday.

ERIC BERTOT, Kearns: Lifted the Cougars past Granger 3-2 Friday with two scores.

JEREMY JOHNSON, Bingham: Recorded two shutouts in goal for the twice-victorious Miners.

NIC BUTLER, Sky View: Powered a 3-0 win Friday over Cache County rival Mountain Crest with two goals.

RYAN STACK, Judge: Reached the net twice in Bulldogs' 3-0 victory over Tooele Friday.

KYLE NORDFORS, Woods Cross: Scored five goals in 11-1 Wildcat mauling of Cyprus Friday (had two in 4-0 win over East Tuesday). Teammates Lance Bradshaw and Terry Hammer each added two scores.

CHRIS SEAMONS, Timpview: Notched his 10th shutout in goal this season as the Thunderbirds struck down Pleasant Grove 3-0 Friday.

SHAY ASLEPT, Provo: Led the Bulldogs past Springville 3-1 Friday with two goals.

MANEY LEBBON, Delta: Two goals lifted the Rabbits to a 6-1 win over Hurricane Friday.

SETH KLINGONSMITH, Dixie: Fired two shots past the goalie in 3-2 nipping of Snow Canyon Friday.

JAE HYUNG CHANG, Wasatch Academy: Paced a 5-3 overtime win over Rowland Hall-St. Mark's Friday with two scores.

MIKE LORENCO, Orem: Scored twice in Thursday's 4-0 victory at American Fork.

BRYAN FREEMAN, Roy: Mr. Offense did all the scoring as Royals edged Bonneville 2-1 Tuesday.

MIKE SCHEEL, Layton: Took care of the scoring in Lancers' 2-0 blanking of Weber Tuesday.

WES DAVIS, Bingham: Scored twice in Miners' 4-0 win over West Jordan Tuesday.

BEN HUBER, Brighton: Had two goals in Bengals' 7-4 overtime victory over Orem Tuesday.

TRAVIS GREENFIELD, Ben Lomond: His two scores led Scots past Logan 2-1 Tuesday.

STEVE SAGERS, Tooele: Buffalo blasted two shots past the net in 2-1 victory over Jordan Tuesday.

AARON STRAW, Olympus: Took care of two-thirds of the scoring in Tuesday's 3-0 victory over Cyprus Tuesday.

SPENCER BECK, Snow Canyon: Beat Cedar City's goalie twice in 4-0 win Tuesday.

SOFTBALL

CARLEY GARNER, Monticello: Struck out 18 and collected four RBI, including a home run, as the Buckaroos silenced South Sevier 9-2 Saturday.

KELLY WESSELLS, Logan: A homer and a triple produced three runs in 6-2 win over Ben Lomond Friday.

JILL BEARNSON, Woods Cross: Drove in three runs and smacked a homer as Wildcats doubled Olympus 6-3 Friday.

MAKENZIE ROLLO, Cedar City: Led the Lady Reds to a 19-9 win over Hurricane with three RBI.

CHRISTY SHEPHERD, Wasatch: Two doubles and two RBI led the Wasps to an 8-4 stinging of Park City Friday. Homered and drove in four runs Wednesday in an 18-6 win over South Summit.

NATALIE TUTTLE, Millard: Knocked in a trio of runs as Eagles flew past South Summit 13-4 in game one of a twinbill sweep.

TRISTAN WILSON, Grand: Drove in nine runs as the Red Devils clobbered Kanab 21-2 Friday. Her three hits included a grand slam, a bases-loaded triple and a run-scoring double.

GWEN LYONS, Murray: Threw a six inning no-hit shutout as Spartans stopped Tooele 4-0 Thursday. Tossed a one-hitter Monday - a 13-2 win over Judge. Teammates Julie Bleazard and Carrie Cook each had three RBI.

BROOKE BAKER, West Jordan: Winning pitcher collected three hits, including a home run, as Jaguars blasted Hunter 12-0 Thursday.

JESSICA BRADLEY, Brighton: Doubled, tripled and knocked in four runs as Bengals blitzed Mountain View 13-0 Thursday.

ANNIE ROBERTS, Alta: Ripped a bases-loaded triple to lead Hawks past Alta 8-6 Thursday.

MARY JO NATTRESS, East: Led the Leopards past Woods Cross 10-7 Thursday by driving in three runs.

MARY BRINKERHOFF, Emery: Struck out eight on the mound and added a two-run triple from the plate as Spartans edged North Sanpete 6-4 Thursday. Also had eight K's Tuesday in a 7-1 win over Richfield.

MINDY DESPAIN, Logan: Recorded her 10th victory pitching as the Grizzlies grounded Mountain Crest 12-6 Wednesday.

NATALIE PETERSON, Cottonwood: Threw her second no-hitter of the season Tuesday in Colts' 8-1 win over Viewmont.

HEIDI OLSEN, Bingham: Drove in four runs Tuesday in 7-1 victory over Granger.

JONI BARDSLEY, Hillcrest: Struck out eight while pitching a two-hitter as Huskies blanked Brighton 6-0 Tuesday.

BOX ELDER TRIO: Shandy Nelson, Sarah Briner and Kim Francom each drove in four runs as Bees whipped Bear River 13-2 Tuesday.

AMANDA KENGELOSI & HOLLY NELSON, Logan: Each drove in five runs as Grizzlies smashed Sky View 18-4 Tuesday.

AUDREY JENSEN, Springville: Had a bases-loaded triple in Red Devils' 13-2 win over Payson Tuesday.

KRISTY PETERSON, Pl. Grove: Collected four RBI on three hits in 16-6 topping of Timpview Tuesday.

PATTY PALMAS, Millard: Drove in five runs as Eagles outgunned Gunnison 16-13 Tuesday.

ANDREA DAVIS, Taylorsville: Knocked in four runs as the Warriors upset top-ranked Bingham 6-1 Monday. Teammate Michelle Painter pitched a two-hitter.

TORI SANDOVAL, Roy: Struck out 14 in 5-0 win over Northridge Monday.

TENNIS

SCOTT DYRENG & DUSTIN BARTON, Manti: Senior duo continued a Templar tradition by winning the doubles crown at the recent BYU Invitational. Manti has won the title 22 of the past 27 years - Dyreng is a three-time champion.
