Monday's shooting death of an 18-year-old man on a highway frontage road marked the fifth shooting in Salt Lake City in just six days.
- Last Wednesday, Christopher Trujillo, 17, was shot in the head while sitting in a buddy's car near 400 South and 900 West after another car pulled alongside and the occupants began firing.- A war of words between rival gang members Thursday at 267 N.
800 West ended in gunfire, leaving one 17-year-old boy with a bullet lodged in his leg. The shootout occurred in the same neighborhood where another teen was shot during a family barbecue in February.
Police arrested three juveniles.
- Antonio Lopez was shot just above his left ear early Saturday following an apparent confrontation with another man.
Lopez, 34, told police he was walking down the street near 560 N. Pugsley (340 West) when a man approached and shot him with a small handgun. The man was booked into jail but will be released because Lopez has not contacted detectives or prosecutors.
- Late Saturday, a group of alleged gangsters opened fire on the Centro Civico Mexicano at 155 S. 600 West after being turned away from a dance for refusing to allow security guards to search them.
Angel Cortez, 23, a rapper and peace-advocate from Los Angeles, died from a gunshot to the back. His fellow musician, Francisco Duenas, 23, was shot in the leg.
No arrests have been made.
- Jorge Salinas, 18, died Monday after being shot in the head by a group of gunmen on an I-15 frontage road near 1600 South.
Salinas and two relatives had reportedly been fighting late Sunday with a group of people from the Camaleon Club at 826 S. Main.
Police request the public's help in finding suspects.
The shooting occurred about midnight; suspects were in a small, white older car. The victims were driving a blue Toyota pick-up.
