A man accused of trying to dig up his father's remains at the Provo Cemetery over the weekend will be arraigned next week in 4th Circuit Court on one count of criminal mischief and one count of trespassing.

Capt. George Pierpont said police received a call early Sunday from the man's relatives, who said the man was en route to the cemetery to dig up his father's casket. The man has a history of mental illness and family members said he had not been taking his medication, Pierpont said.Officers found the man digging at his father's grave site. He had dug to the point that the vault was partly exposed.

"He told the officers that he was digging up his dad's bones, they belonged to him and he was taking them with him," Pierpont said.

The man was booked into the Utah County Jail, and bail was set Tuesday at $500.
