Cellular One is accepting requests until April 14 from Salt Lake, Utah and Davis county nonprofit organizations to participate in its third annual "Cellular for the Community" program.

Cellular One will provide selected nonprofit organizations with the free use of cellular phones and air time for a year to help increase the effectiveness of the recipient's community programs. Eligible organizations include those that require emergency communications while working outside of the office.Monica Reed, director of the Salt Lake City Victim Advocate Program and one of the 1994 Cellular for the Community recipients, says the Victim Advocate Program "has saved lives with the cellular phone. Victims of domestic violence are able to seek assistance from the volunteer advocates immediately."

This is the third year the program has been offered to organizations. Twelve phones with unlimited air time are being used by Wasatch Front nonprofit organizations.

Applications can be obtained from Cellular service centers. For information, call 541-6360.
