WAC is no longer used by the military but is an acceptable term in a reference to a woman who served in what used to be the Women's Army Corps.

WAF is no longer used by the military but is acceptable in a reference to a woman who served in the Air Force. It also is acceptable on second reference to Women in the Air Force, an unofficial organizational distinction formerly made by the Air Force but never authorized by Congress.WAVE no longer is used by the military but is aceptable in a reference to a woman who served in the Navy. WAVES is acceptable on second reference to the Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service, an organizational distinction made for women during World War II but subsequently discontinued.
