Leland Dean Ballard, age 71, passed away Wednesday, April 5, 1995 at the Utah Valley Regional Medical Center from a cardiac arrest.

He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, January 21, 1924, the oldest son of Leland Bert and Jeannette Stoddard Ballard. He married Kathryn (Kae) June Munk on December 21, 1945 in the Salt Lake Temple.Dean graduated from the University of Utah and taught school in Salt Lake and Richmond for several years. He was executive director of the Albany, Calif. YMCA and also worked for the LDS Church before his retirement in 1987. He and his wife have resided in Orem, Utah since his retirement.

Dean was an avid golfer. He loved music. He was a High Priest in the LDS Church.

He is survived by his wife, Kathryn (Kae) Munk Ballard of Orem; sons: Larry Lee (Diana) of Salem; David Roger (Kris) of Vallejo, Calif.; J. Brian (Kathy) of West Valley City; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; brothers: Jay Gordon Ballard of Grass Valley, Calif.; D. Keith Ballard of Vancouver, Wash.; sister, Jean Flandro of Salt Lake City. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, R. Derrall Ballard.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 10, 1995 at 12 noon in the Sunset Heights 2nd Ward Chapel, 1260 So. 400 West, Orem. Friends may call Sunday 6-8 p.m. at Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary, 495 South State Street, Orem, and Monday one hour prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in the Orem City Cemetery.
