TOP-RANKED WOODS CROSS DOMINATES NO. 2 OLYMPUS WITH CONVINCING WIN

Time continues to be an ally for top-ranked Woods Cross as Friday night's 4-1 win over Olympus boldly proved. Even against high-caliber teams like the No. 2-ranked Titans, the Wildcats continue to grow stronger as the best team in the state with an 8-0 overall record.

"We were tentative at first, although we did statistically dominate," said Woods Cross coach Kevin Rigby. Despite a 0-0 deadlock, Olympus only managed two shots on goal in the first half compared to the Cats' 16.Ryan Jensen opened the scoring with a goal 15 minutes into the second half. Teammate Kyle Nordfors followed with another five minutes later.

Woods Cross added more pressure in the end resulting in two goals in the last five minutes by Nordfors and J.D. Lyon.

Region 1

Weber 2, Bonneville 1

At Bonneville, the Warriors made their first three kicks in the shootout while Bonneville couldn't connect on its first three.

Northridge 2, Fremont 0

At Fremont, the Knights notched their second region win by blanking the Silver Wolves on the road.

Roy 2, Layton 1

At Roy, the Royals jumped to 4-1 in region play with by handing Layton its second region loss in a week.

Region 2

Bountiful 2, Cottonwood 1

At Cottonwood, Bountiful's Scott Beynon scored along with a goal from Geno Ji to beat the Colts. Joey Worthen hit Cottonwood's goal.

Davis 1, Highland 0

At Highland, Davis' Matt Woolley hit the game winner in the second half of overtime for the Darts' first region win.

Viewmont 1, Skyline 0

At Viewmont, Davey Lund scored a game-winning shot in the second OT period for the top-ranked Vikings. John Morris got the keeper shutout in Viewmont's third OT win this season.

Region 3

West Jordan 2, Granger 1

At Granger, Jared Henderson and Cody Nelson rallied in the Jaguars' third region win with one goal apiece.

Bingham 1, Hunter 0

At Bingham, Miner Travis Cushing made a first half penalty kick in a game highlighted by defense from keepers Danny Palmer (Hunter) and Jeremy Johnson (Bingham).

Taylorsville 3, Kearns 0

At Taylorsville, Jim Morse, Teran Mitchell, Tyler Atkinson all scored to post the Warriors' first region win.

Region 5

Box Elder 2, Ben Lomond 1

At Ben Lomond, Jimmy Veadles scored for Box Elder with one minute left in regulation. Casey Bennett hit the game winner only moments into overtime.

Logan 2, Mountain Crest 1

At Logan, Kirk Jeppeson and Jake Johnson scored goals for the Grizzlies in their first region victory. The Mustangs fell to 2-3 in region.

Bear River 1, Ogden 0

At Ogden, Justin Zollinger scored the game's only goal minutes into the second half to help stun the Tigers on their homefield.

Region 6

Tooele 1, Granite 0

At Tooele, the Buffaloes scored on the opening drive of the game for their second region victory. Granite dropped to 2-2.

Region 8

Payson 2, Pleasant Grove 1

At Pleasant Grove, Cory Lindstrom scored both goals in Payson's second region win.

Provo 4, Spanish Fork 0

At Provo, Sourichay Souphon hit two goals for third-ranked Provo while Charlie Toupaix and Matt Balebout each scored one.

Timpview 6, Springville 0

At Timpview, Mark Boren had two goals and Jon Winn made four assists in a win over the Red Devils. Keeper Chris Seamons got his seventh shutout.

Region 9

Dixie 6, Delta 2

At Dixie, the No. 1-ranked Flyers scored four goals in the overtime period, improving them to 3-0 in region play.

Cedar City 2, Hurricane 2

At Cedar City, Jake McKittrick and Josh Carver scored for the Redmen as Hurricane came from behind to tie the game.

Pine View 2, Snow Canyon 1

At Snow Canyon, Chris Neal hit a penalty kick and Steven Scheank scored on a far post shot for a Panther win.

Region 10

Uintah 3, Lehi 3

At Lehi, Coly Enloe scored all three goals for Uintah while Jon Hafen, Adam Kolowich and Gregg Sorensen each hit goals for the Pioneers.

Class 1A

Waterford 7, SL Lutheran 1

At Waterford, Sam Johnston hit three goals for the Wolves in their fourth-straight region win. Also scoring were Justin Kesler, Ben Lonsdale and Don McCartney.

Wasatch Academy 3, I.C.S. 1

At I.C.S., Jaehyung Chang, Kazu Hashidate and Scott McCollum each scored to keep the Tigers undefeated in region play.
