The jerk with the harmonica? That was Bruce Willis!

Novelist Jonathan Levi remembers the megastar as a struggling actor in New York in the pre-"Moonlighting" television series days."I was in a band, the Savannah Sheiks. One day the singer called me up and said, `Remember that funny, kinda jerky guy who used to come to our gigs and pull out his harmonica and play all the wrong notes? Now he's Bruce Willis,"' Levi says.

Fame has been a dizzying ride, Willis says in Sunday's New York Times Magazine. Now he's watching Brad Pitt - his co-star in the upcoming film "Twelve Monkeys" - go through it.

"Fame will make your head spin," Willis says. "It's an interesting thing to watch what I went through happen to someone else. See him become the thing, become it for a while. I'm very glad it's not me."
