The Davis County School District honored its best teachers in a program at Northridge High School recently.

Robert Campbell, South Davis Junior High, was named teacher of the year for 1995. A music and band teacher, Campbell was honored for his bands' superior ratings in festivals for more than 20 years and for the high percentage of students playing in his band - over 25 percent.Lorilynn Bastian, a first-grade teacher at Syracuse Elementary, was named elementary teacher of the year. Bastian is known for her holistic, language-rich classroom and has devised a modified reading and writing workshop for kindergarten through second grade in which students choose from a variety of learning activities. She stresses giving students the chance to take responsibility.
