A West Valley man was shot at Saturday after he pursued teenagers caught breaking into his car. On Sunday, police locked up a 14-year-old boy for allegedly shooting another teen after the two exchanged words.
It was a busy weekend for West Valley police.A man looked outside his home early Saturday and spotted three teens attempting to break into his neighbor's car, West Valley detective Alan Call said.
He called the owner, who confronted the boys. They fled in two cars and the owner pursued them in his truck, Call said.
The man pulled in front of the lead car near 2700 South and 3400 West, and the occupants opened fire at him, Call said. A second car rammed the man's truck from the side, wrecking the car. Two teens left the damaged vehicle and fled in the car driven by their friend.
A few minutes later, a West Valley officer spotted the car driving erratically and attempted to pull it over. The suspects crashed their vehicle and fled on foot. Police captured one West Valley boy, 15, who was booked into juvenile detention for investigation of attempted murder, Call said.
Sunday evening, a 15-year-old boy was shot in the chest during an argument between teenagers.
West Valley police Lt. Guy Dodge said the boy was confronted by two other teenagers outside his home in a sprawling apartment complex at 1829 W. Lake Park Drive shortly before 7 p.m.
"There was an exchange of words between the victim and the suspects, a handgun was produced and shots were fired," Dodge said.
The boy's mother and brother were standing next to him during the incident but were not injured, Dodge said. The boy, whose name was not released, was flown to University Hospital, where he underwent surgery Sunday night. He was in fair condition Monday.
A 14-year-old suspect was held for questioning Monday.
