A Juab County employee has been charged with misuse of public funds.
Juab County Commission Chairman Gordon Young read a statement following an executive session meeting Monday, indicating that an independent audit of the Juab County Fair Association's financial records brought to light possible discrepancies with the association's records."Further investigation revealed a likelihood of misuse of Juab County general fund monies," said Young. "None of the money in question originated from federal or state sources."
"Carla Bailey has been charged with second-degree felony theft, six counts of third-degree felony misuse of public funds and six counts of felony forgery," said Juab County Attorney David Leavitt.
Independent auditors met with commissioners and Leavitt in an executive session before Young read the prepared statement.
"As a result of the investigation, the county attorney has charged a county employee with misuse of public monies and other related charges. The matter will be dealt with through the court system," said Young.
"As is the case with all criminal matters, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt," said Young.
Leavitt said approximately $68,000 was thought to have been misused.
