Social worker Leslie Komatsu has been appointed to the Murray Board of Education, succeeding longtime board member Laura Baker.
Komatsu's term will begin June 14. She will represent Precinct 4, the central part of Murray, until the November 1996 election. She then will face election to serve the remaining two years of Baker's term.Baker resigned from the school board to join her husband, Dr. Maurice Baker, who will preside over LDS Church's mission in Albuquerque.
Komatsu, child protective services state specialist for the state Division of Family Service, has two children in Murray schools and been active in PTA for a number of years. In 1994, the Utah State PTA awarded her an honorary life membership for her work in the prevention of child abuse. She has been a social worker 21 years.
"I am excited to be part of the Murray Board of Education. I feel that my working with other agencies in Salt Lake County will be helpful in carrying out the board's vision for the students in Murray city school district," she said.
