A Las Vegas man was arrested Saturday morning and booked into the Utah County Jail after a man fired a shot at a motel clerk after a robbery.

A Provo Police spokesman said a man entered the manager's office of the Best Western Motel at 78 E. 300 South shortly after 9 a.m. and pointed a pistol at the manager. The man apparently robbed the manager of the cash receipts and then fled. The motel manager followed the suspect out of the motel to see what kind of vehicle he was driving. When the man noticed the manager following him, he turned and fired one shot at the manager before fleeing in a small car.

The shot missed the manager, but several motorists on 300 South witnessed the incident and telephoned police dispatchers with a description of the suspect's car. Patrol officers responding to the scene spotted a car matching the description a few blocks from the crime scene and made an arrest without incident.

Police recovered the stolen cash and a 9mm semi-automatic handgun from the car. The pistol had one empty cartridge in the chamber, police said. Police say the suspect likely will be charged with aggravated robbery and attempted murder Tuesday in 4th Circuit Court.
