The French team "Chevaliers De Loire" comes in in 9th place, finishing the 370-mile Eco-Challenge race at Bullfrog Marina on Lake Powell Wednesday morning. The French team of Hewlett Packard finished first at 11:25 p.m. Tuesday, after 81/2 days of racing on foot, mountain bike, horses, ropes, rafts and kayaks through a grueling course that began April 26 in Emery County. Finishing second, at 1:45 a.m., in what is considered a major upset, was the all-American Nike team. Of the original 50 five-person teams, only 22 remained on Wednesday. Controversy surrounding the event continues amid worries that the race is hurting the fragile desert. See stories on Pages D1 and B1.
