A man who apparently scaled a fence to get into the yard of Madonna's Hollywood Hills home was shot during a struggle with a security guard. The pop star was not at home at the time.
Robert Roland Hoskins, 37, was shot three times in the arm and abdomen Monday night, police said. He was listed in fair condition Tuesday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, a hospital spokeswoman said. The shooting appeared to be justified because the intruder went for the guard's pistol, said detective Andrew Purdy.
"There was a tussle over the gun," said Purdy. "This guy probably has about 40 pounds and a couple of inches on the security guard."
Another detective, Mike McDonagh, said Madonna had made reports to authorities that Hoskins "has been threatening her and stalking her."
Hoskins apparently scaled a fence and confronted the guard in the back yard about 40 feet from the house, McDonagh said.
Police planned to transfer Hoskins to the jail ward at Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center and book him for investigation of attempted burglary, Purdy said.
