A daredevil stunt killed one Cedar City teen and severely injured two others Thursday afternoon.

Five teens ranging from ages 14 to 18 were attempting to see how fast a 1989 Hyundai could negotiate a turn at 550 W. Greenslake Road, said Cedar City police Lt. Glen Miller. The teens made the turn at a high speed but over-cor-rected coming out of it and smashed into a metal Dump-ster filled with building material, Miller said.

"The car was torn in half on impact," Miller said. Police estimate the car was going about 50 to 60 mph when it hit the garbage bin.

The youths were taken to Valley View Regional Medical Center, where one 16-year-old girl was pronounced dead. Two boys, one age 14 and the other 18, were treated and released Thursday night.

A 16-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl were flown by helicopter to Primary Children's Medical Center, where both are listed in critical but stable condition.

Police refused to release the names of those involved until the county attorney's office decides whether to press charges.
