Wreck kills 3, injures 6

COLUMBIA, Va. - Three people were killed and six injured, two critically, when a car went out of control Saturday and ran into the crowd at a rural dragstrip, state police said.

Glen Hicks, of the Old Dominion Four-Wheel Drive Club which sponsored the event, said a late model car was racing against the clock down the 200-yard track when the driver lost control, plowing into the crowd.

Hicks said the driver of the car, identified only as a 50-year-old Mississippi man, was not injured.

Meinhard said no charges have been filed, and that an investigation continues.
