Some of the notable performances in Utah high school sports last week:


CASEY MURRAY, Viewmont: Led the Vikings to the Region 2 championship by smacking a three-run homer in Friday's 12-2 win over rival Bountiful.

MIKE OCKERLUND, Granger: Two doubles produced three RBI in Friday's 9-1 Lancer victory over West Jordan.

KODY FLOYD, Mtn. View: Homered twice in the Bruins' 6-0 win over Alta Friday.

GEORGE WHITE, Grand: Knocked in four runs as the Red Devils bashed Beaver 13-3 Friday. Teammates Michael Striblen and Ryan Pene also enjoyed solid outings. Striblen finished with three RBI, while Pene struck out seven in tossing a two-hitter.

RICK MOORE, Northridge: Threw a two-hitter as the Knights edged Fremont 4-3 Thursday.

JOSH STEED, Layton: Doubled twice to knock in three runs in the Lancers' 9-2 win over Roy Thursday.

TRAVIS HATCH, Taylorsville: Knocked in four runs on three hits as the Warriors outlasted Granger 10-7 Thursday.

ZACK VANDYKEN, Brighton: Smacked a game-winning grand slam with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Bengals nipped American Fork 11-8 Thursday.

MONTY RUTTENBUR, Hillcrest: Had five hits - two doubles - and drove in three runs as the Huskies edged Alta 12-11 Thursday.

JUSTIN HOLLAND, Hunter: Ripped a three-run homer as the Wolverines claimed a 6-5 win over West Jordan Thursday.

SCOTT PRATT, Tooele: Drove in five runs, four off a grand slam, to lead the Buffaloes past Murray 6-0 Thursday. Pratt also struck out nine Spartans pitching en route to throwing a two-hitter.

RUSS CRITTLE, Woods Cross: Collected four RBI on three hits as the Wildcats whipped Olympus 13-3 Thursday.

CODY KNUDSEN, Pleasant Grove: Tossed a one-hitter as the Vikings overpowered Timpview 16-1 Thursday.

KEVIN WILSON, Springville: Led the Red Devils to a 10-0 pasting of Payson Thursday by striking out 10.

DANIEL RICHINS, North Summit: Paced the Braves to a 12-9 win over rival South Summit Thursday with four hits and the same number of RBI.

SCOTT HARRISON, Brighton: Pitcher lowered his ERA to 0.5 and improved his record to 5-0 on the year in Bengals' 7-2 win over Orem Wednesday. Both Tiger runs were unearned.

SKY GRANT, Skyline: Racked up nine strikeouts and allowed just two hits in the Eagles' 7-0 blanking of Viewmont Wednesday.

KEVIN CATOE & JEFF RIGBY, Bountiful: Each drove in three runs as Braves outlasted Cottonwood 14-9 in a slugfest Wednesday.

DANNY MAYNARD, Bingham: Two hits produced three runs as this Miner played a major role in a 6-3 win over Kearns Wednesday.

JEREMIE RINDERKNECHT, Mtn. Crest: Led the Mustangs to an 11-1 win over Ogden Wednesday by gathering three hits, including an inside-the-park home run, and driving in three runs.

BRADEN TATE, Woods Cross: His first-inning grand slam powered the Wildcats to a 10-7 victory over West Wednesday. Teammate Grant Peterson contributed three RBI.

BROCK KESTERSON & SCOTT CUFF, Richfield: Each drove in four runs in Wednesday's 16-1 drubbing of North Sanpete.

LUKE ADAMS, Millard: Helped the Eagles fly past Juab Wednesday by knocking in three runs in 13-2 whipping of Juab.

JEFF CLUFF, Tooele: Knocked in three runs to lead a 12-5 Buffalo stampede past Judge Monday.

ZAC SMITH, Skyline: Drove in four runs in the Eagles' 8-6 edging of Bountiful Monday.

STEVE JEPPSON, Viewmont: Fanned nine in going the distance in Vikings' 4-2 win over rival Davis Monday. He also smacked a run-scoring double.


TODD CHRISTENSEN, Highland: BYU-bound cager scored a team-high 27 points in Team Utah's 123-106 loss to Team USA - a group of national prep stars.


RANDY CARLSON, Clearfield: Two goals lifted the Falcons to a share of the Region 1 crown in Friday's 2-1 upset win over Roy.

JOSH MORGAN, Bonneville: Collected a pair of goals Friday as the Lakers whipped Fremont 4-0.

MATT WOOLLEY, Davis: Helped the Darts keep their postseason hopes alive with two goals in Friday's 6-0 win over Cottonwood.

ROBBIE TIMM, Park City: Scored two goals as the Miners outlasted Uintah 3-2 in overtime Friday.

JON HAFEN, Lehi: Found the mark twice in the Pioneers' 4-0 win over Wasatch Friday.

DAVEY LUND, Viewmont: Scored twice as the Vikings defeated Skyline 3-1 Tuesday to claim the Region 2 championship. He equaled the effort Friday with two goals in a 3-1 decision over rival Bountiful.

FRANCISCO SILVA & JORGE ESTRADA, Highland: Each scored two goals in Rams' 5-1 win over Davis Tuesday.

BRANDON MURRAY & MIKE URE, Brighton: Split four goals in Bengals' 6-0 triumph over Mountain View Tuesday.

MASON EVES, Alta: Slipped two shots past the goalie as the Hawks clipped American Fork Tuesday.

WADE VAN HORN, Jordan: Two-goal effort lifted the Beetdiggers past Judge 4-1 Tuesday.

KYLE NORDFORS, Woods Cross: State scoring leader had three goals in Wildcats' 7-2 victory over Olympus Tuesday. Teammate Ryan Jensen added two scores.

AARON WONACOTT, Pleasant Grove: His two goals in overtime lifted the Vikings to a 5-3 win over Payson.

JEFF ANDREW, Spanish Fork: Hit the back of the net twice in a 4-3 shootout setback to Provo Tuesday.

JON WINN, Timpview: Recorded four assists in Thunderbirds' 5-1 silencing of Springville Tuesday.

MANNY LEBBON, Delta: Two scores powered the Rabbits past Dixie 3-2 in overtime Tuesday.


STACY AINSWORTH, Alta: Drove in five runs Friday as the Hawks smacked Mountain View 11-2 to finish Region 4 play with a 10-0 record.

STACY COX, Manti: Helped the Templars sweep a doubleheader with Morgan Friday by knocking in five runs and hitting a home run.

JACKIE THORNTON, San Juan: Homered and recorded three RBI in the Broncos' 18-8 win over Parowan Friday.

BROOKE BAKER, West Jordan: Recorded six strikeouts and drove in two runs as the Jaguars edged Bingham 4-1 Thursday for a share of the Region 3 crown.

McKENZIE SUDBURY, Skyline: Led the Eagles to a 5-3 triumph over Viewmont Thursday by striking out eight.

ALTA TRIO: Stacey Holmes, Cassie Alvie and Annie Roberts each drove in four runs as the Hawks swept a doubleheader with American Fork Thursday.

KRISTA LAW, Hillcrest: Rapped out three hits and drove in four as the Huskies defeated Mountain View 9-8 Thursday in game two of a twinbill sweep.

AUDREY JENSEN, Springville: Bolstered her two-hitter by knocking in two runs at the plate in the Red Devils' 6-1 pounding of Provo Thursday.

MAKENZIE ROLLO, Cedar City: Struck out seven and had two RBI in Lady Reds' 12-2 smashing of Dixie Thursday.

CARLEY GARNER, Monticello: Paced the Buckaroos past San Juan 10-4 Thursday by registering 15 strikeouts. Teammate Lupie Alba powered the offense with a bases-loaded triple.

MELANIE SORENSON, Bountiful: Struck out 10 Wednesday as the Braves outlasted Skyline 6-4 in extra innings.

JONI BARDSLEY, Hillcrest: Her three hits produced two RBI which added up to a win on the mound for the Huskies - a 5-0 decision over American Fork Wednesday.

JAYCI FRENCH, West: Led the Panthers to a 5-1 victory over Woods Cross Wednesday by knocking in three runs.

SHERIE HOLMES, Highland: Recorded 10 strikeouts in Rams' 11-1 win at Bountiful Monday. Also recorded a complete game Thursday in a 7-4 victory over Davis.

NATALIE YOUNG, West: Tossed a two-hitter in guiding the Panthers to a 4-0 win over Olympus Monday.

HEATHER OAKDEN, Beaver: Drove in three runs in Beavers' 7-4 win over North Sevier Monday.


BOB LONERGAN, RHSM: Claimed the No. 1 singles crown at the 1A state tournament. He hasn't trailed in any set this year in helping the Winged Lions claim their sixth consecutive state championship. The rest of the RHSM team also earned top finishes: Howard Horn (No. 2 singles), Nick Greenwood (No. 3 singles), Matt Tribe and Eric Alder (No. 1 doubles), as well as Jaimeson Agraz and Michael Landesman (No. 2 doubles).


VICKY TAMS, Box Elder: Triple winner at the BYU Invitational. Earned top finishes in the 100 meters as well as the 100 and 300 hurdles. Other multiple individual winners include: Shauna Rohbock (Mountain View) defended her heptathlon title and placed first in the javelin; Wendy Allen (Mountain View) took top honors in both the 1600 and 3200 meter runs; Slade Combs (East) outran the field the 110 and 300 meter hurdles; Clint Edmunds (Bingham) crossed the tape first in the 100 and 200 meter sprints; and Lee Lorenz (Bingham) claimed victory in the 400 and 800 meter runs.

FRANCE DAVIS, Skyline: Set a new 5A state record with a long jump leap of 23-feet-71/2 inches at the BYU Invitational.
