With Salt Lake City selected as the site for the Winter Olympics 2002, my only hope is that we can pay for the Games without raising any taxes. But why dream?

The state government cannot guarantee that our taxes will not be raised to pay for the Olympics. I do not see paying for years for two weeks to one month of advertising, but apparently I am one of a minority.Of course, we could ask the Western states to help pay for the Olympic advertisements. But if the other states are not going to benefit, why should they pay or try to help us?

By the way, what was the name of the place where the Olympics were held last year? Lisbon? I think it starts with an "l."
