Concerning the so-called wilderness bill for Utah, officially called the Utah Public Lands Management Act: This proposal is an insult to those of us participating in last spring's public hearings. It is bad enough that many superb areas were left out of this bill, but to attempt to allow nonwilderness activities such as off-road vehicles, dams in certain areas, roads and pipelines and other development in some instances, means none of these areas will be wilderness.

This is my land the politicians are playing fast and loose with. This development bill does not represent my view nor the majority of viewpoints I heard expressed at the public hearings. The 19th-century thinking exhibited in this bill, if enacted, would leave us wanting in the 21st century.Larry Thomas
