Beloved husband, father, brother, friend, teacher, and missionary, Joseph Thurston Smith, left his earthly home June 28, 1995.
Born August 10, 1923 in Cardston, Alberta, Canada. Supported by his loving wife, Hengameh Smith. Joseph T. Smith, MD, JP, FAPA, FCLM, FAAFS, began his professional life as a general practitioner. Diplomate, American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Diplomate, American Board of Forensic Psychiatry. Diplomate, American Board of Law in Medicine. He obtained Degree of Juris Doctor from American University, Washington College of Law in 1980. He was a professor and guest lecturer at George Washington University in the Medical and Law schools.As an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served the Lord in many callings and had a strong desire to consecrate his time and talents to building the kingdom of God.
In the true sense of the word he was a Renaissance man. His interests and hobbies ranged from hang-gliding, river running, painting, and wood carving to poetry and elocution. He held many children and adults spellbound with a great story.
He is survived by Karen Hathaway, Minnesota; Marc Smith, Maryland; Lanny Smith, Provo; Peter Smith, Bountiful; Shauna Michaelson, North Salt Lake; Nani Crandall, California; Ceri Mauerman, Florida; Candide Baird, Provo; Cynthia Todachine, New Mexico; Behzad, Niloufar, and Behrad TabaTabaei, all of Alpine; 29 loving grandchildren, seven brothers, and two sisters.
Funeral services will be Monday, 12 noon, in the Alpine 1st Ward, Temple View Chapel, 676 North Eagle View Drive, where friends may call from 10-11:45 a.m. Burial will follow in the Alpine City Cemetery. Funeral Directors, Anderson & Sons Mortuary, American Fork.
