An Ogden man has been released after spending 14 days in the Weber County Jail as a suspect in crimes he said were committed by a look-alike.

The charges stemmed from a gang brawl at a house June 17. People were injured, beer was stolen and property was damaged.Witnesses told police that Michael V. Lynch was a major participant in the fracas. Police arrested the 20-year-old man on June 22, and he was charged with aggravated assault, aggravated burglary and aggravated theft.

Lynch insisted he was innocent and told police there was another man in Ogden whose appearance was strikingly similar.

Authorities did not believe him, but public defender Jon Pace found the double booked into the MOWEDA juvenile-detention facility in Roy.

With a picture of the MOWEDA suspect, Pace went back to the witnesses who implicated Lynch and showed them the picture of Lynch's look-alike. The witnesses said the second person was the one involved in the fight.

The MOWEDA suspect admitted he participated in the brawl.

Lynch was freed Monday.
