A mental health therapist is accused of sexually abusing a female patient during a hypnosis treatment at a West Valley clinic.

Phillip J. Wyckoff, 54, was charged Friday with single counts of rape and forcible sodomy, both first-degree felonies. The victim, age unknown, told investigators Wyckoff sexually assaulted her during a May 1 hypnosis session at Valley Mental Health Center, 3575 S. Market St. (2820 West), according to a 3rd Circuit Court report.

The woman believes she was also sexually abused by the defendant in earlier hypnosis treatments, the report said.

Wyckoff admitted to having sex with the patient at the conclusion of the May 1 session, but adds it was consensual and did not occur while the woman was hypnotized, the report said.
