A report by the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, which said two of the state's five regions were a sellout for deer tags, was not correct. Only one is.
On the first day deer tags went on sale, the allotment for the Southern Region did sell out. Permits for the Southeastern Region, however, did not and there are still permits available. Also, the limit on rifle elk permits has not been reached.
Hunters can purchase general deer and elk tags from more than 400 license vendors statewide. The DWR is monitoring sales and will stop issuing permits when the limit in a region has been reached.
There are still more than 10,000 "spike bull" and "any bull" permits available for the October elk hunt.
