A Clearfield man pleaded not guilty Tuesday in 2nd District Court to explosives and drug charges stemming from a motorcycle chase through Davis County in July.

Damon Putnam, 31, and John B. Thompson, 47, Riverdale, were charged after they crashed their motorcycles in separate accidents after leading police on a chase that reached speeds of up to 100 mph the evening of July 10.Putnam crashed on the frontage road in front of Lagoon in Farmington and Thompson ran into a retaining wall at 1340 South and 200 East, also in Farmington, after they split up in Centerville, according to police. Both suffered minor injuries.

Putnam Tuesday pleaded not guilty to two second-degree felony charges of possession of an explosive, a third-degree felony count of failure to respond to a police officer, a third-degree felony charge of illegal possession of a handgun, and three misdemeanor traffic and drug charges.

Police searching his motorcycle reported finding two pipe bombs, a handgun, and marijuana hidden under the seat.

Thompson was also charged with evading and a weapons charge after police said they found a concealed sawed-off shotgun hidden on his bike. Thompson was arraigned on the charges in 2nd Circuit Court and awaits a district court arraignment.
