CENTER IN WORKS FOR HOMELESS WOMEN

Volunteers of America will soon be able to build and operate a special detoxification center for homeless women and their children.

Each month, up to 30 women apply for a place at the existing center, which only has nine beds for women. The project is made possible by a $1 million grant from the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The grant was presented to VOA director Jeff St. Romain during a press conference on Wednesday.

VOA also operates a courtesy patrol van that picks up inebriates throughout Salt Lake County, transitional housing and an outreach program that serves people who are homeless.
