If you can't procure tickets to "Les Miserables" itself, how about the next best thing: a one-night-only variety show and auction featuring the cast members from "Les Miz."
"Beyond the Barricade," written, created and directed by the cast, crew and musicians from the national touring company, will be staged at 8 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 27, at the Off Broadway Theatre, 272 S. Main. All proceeds from the cabaret style variety revue will be donated to the Utah AIDS Foundation and the Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS organizations.
Tickets to this event are $30 each and may be reserved by calling the Theater League of Utah at 355-5502.
The entertainment-packed show will include everything from a Judy Garland impersonation and such showstoppers as "Blow, Gabriel, Blow" and "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" to comedy, dancing, instrumental numbers and segments spotlighting the music of Patsy Cline and Aretha Franklin.
During intermission there will be an auction of memorabilia from "Les Mis-erables," including autographed posters and other items.
Richard Jay-Alexander, associate director and executive producer for the Broadway and North American productions of "Les Miserables," and casting director Ron LaRosa will cohost and emcee the evening's entertainment.
Jay-Alexander, whose performing credits include the first Broadway production of "Amadeus," will be spotlighted in a number featuring the Fabulous Fantines.
