Lightning started two new wildfires near Nephi and one new fire northeast of Moab Thursday while the most intensive firefighting effort in the state continues west of the Great Salt Lake.
The Turkey fire, six miles west of Nephi, had grown to between 200 and 300 acres; and the Long Ridge fire near Mona Reservoir was measured at 100 acres, according to Bureau of Land Management fire dispatchers in Richfield.Rain overnight Thursday that continued Friday morning was slowing the Dolores Triangle fire near Moab on the Utah-Colorado border.
All three fires are expected to be contained Friday.
Firefighting efforts on the 22,700-acre Puddle Valley fire in Tooele County have been stepped up. Two air tankers and 200 firefighters are trying to contain the fire, which was started by lightning on Monday. It was 70 percent contained Friday morning.
