CAPTION ONLY: HUTUS AWAIT GENOCIDE TRIALS

Hutu men pass the time in their crowded cell at the Kigali, Rwanda, prison Friday, where they await trial on charges of genocide or of belonging to the extremist Hutu militia that played a major part in the genocide of Rwanda's Tutsis last year. Brutal prison overcrowding, summary executions, arbitrary arrests and illegal property confiscation remain prevalent in Rwanda, a U.N. human rights investigator said Friday. An estimated 46,000 prisoners, including 1,100 minors, are being detained. The prisoners include old people, women and children, one a 7-year-old boy.
