FHP Hippodrome Gallery will exhibit photographs chronicling the recent renovation and restoration of the Cathedral of the Madeleine. Salt Lake City photographer Dennis Mecham photographed all phases of the restoration and will offer his limited edition Madeleine Portfolio for sale, with 20 percent of the proceeds going to the cathedral. The exhibit begins Aug. 18 and runs through Aug. 30. A public reception will be held on Aug. 24, 6-8 p.m.

- The Salt Lake Ballet Guild is sponsoring an art exhibit at the home of Tom Seig, Sunday, Aug. 27, from 2-6 p.m. The exhibit, held in conjunction with the guild's annual membership drive, will feature work by local artists Marian Dunn, Erik Sieg and Peter Forster. Dunn has been a professional painter for nearly three decades. Her paintings, while essentially representative, approach the abstract. Sieg works with mixed metals, stone, wood and ceramics to produce both sculpture and functional furniture. Forster, skilled in a number of art genres, will exhibit 50 figurative paintings - some of Ballet West dancers - in this, his first fomal exhibition. For reservation information, call Rosemary Tuengel at 278-2545 or Deberah Seare at 942-3003.- Art Access Gallery will feature a juried exhibition, "The Best of Artspace," showcasing the work of artists living and/or working in Artspace and the newly renovated Artspace Rubber Building. The exhibit begins Aug. 18 and runs through Oct. 6. Work shown will be in all media, providing the public an opportunity to view the unusual amount of talent and diversity found among both emerging and established Art-space artists. In addition, artists will open their studios for exhibition and sale of art.

- Lectures, workshops, classes:

- The University of Utah will host papermaker Jana Pullman, University of Iowa's Center for the Book, and her workshop on Aug. 14-18 and Aug. 21-25. The workshops will include training in Western and Japanese papermaking techniques as well as instruction in marbling and other decorated paper production. Pullman will also present two lectures on papermaking, Aug. 17 and Aug. 24, 7:30 p.m., Art and Architecture Bldg., room 158.

- The Kimball Art Center will present a "Black & White Infrared Exposure & Print & Tinting" workshop by Scott Sanders and Dana Bishop Sanders, Aug. 28-Sept. 1. Cost is $200.
