Swapping the big screen for center stage, actor Keanu Reeves had Portland concert-goers screaming and swooning for his little-known band Dogstar.

"Excellent!" screamed Natalie Stiner, 18, her bangs wilting in the heat. The usually understated actor carried his persona onstage, strumming on his bass guitar, wiping away sweat and grinning occasionally.

A mostly female audience turned out, with middle-aged women in career-wear ensembles eyeing youngsters in overalls and flannel shirts to see the star of "A Walk in the Clouds."

"Hey, this is my hero," said Kathleen Forrester, 30, of Gladstone. "Not just like any hero, but like the light of my life. I've liked him forever."
