Loni Sorden, 18, of Virgin, Washington County, was second runner-up and won $2,000 Tuesday in the Miss Teen USA pageant.

The 5-foot 10-inch, sandy-brown haired coed, a daughter of Larry and Rosalin Sorden, was chosen from among 51 contestants during the pageant, which was televised on CBS.Keylee Sue Sanders, Louisberg, Kan., was crowned Miss Teen USA, winning more than $150,000 in cash and prizes. Katie Aselton, Miss Maine Teen USA, was chosen first runner-up.

Sorden, a country-music vocalist who frequently performs at programs in Washington County and who has been active in the Make-A-Wish Foundation and who enjoys playing soccer and softball, was not required to perform a talent number at the pageant.

"It's hard to be that close (to winning) and not make it all the way, but I figure that there's something else I'm supposed to do. But it's a big accomplishment. I worked hard to get there. I am happy with the way things turned out," Sorden said.

She graduated from Hurricane High School and will enroll at Southern Utah University.
