HEALTH FIRM PROVING THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME

There's no place like home, especially for folks needing specialized long-term health care. That's what the staff at Horizon Home Health Care hope to show.

Horizon owners Kent and Connie Measom joined the home health-care industry two years ago, but for Connie, the idea of having her own health-care business has been there much longer."I thought . . . `I could do that,' " Measom said. "And the opportunity came."

Measom has worked in the home health-care field for 10 years and with FHP before branching out on her own. With the help of her four daughters and her accountant husband, Measom has not only built a profitable business but recently opened a Spanish Fork office.

"We are very employee-oriented here," Measom said. "They feel they have ownership in the business."

Since December of 1993 Horizon's staff has grown from just Measom family members to more than 60 employees, including nurses, nurses' aides, social workers, staff and other contracted workers including physical, speech and occupational therapists.

Measom said that although the home health industry is growing, changes in Medicare and Medicaid could alter the picture within the next few years. She hopes that changes will still allow her small business to stay competitive.

"There are a lot of home health agencies out there," she said. "We want to be able to stay in business while remaining small and personalized."

Measom believes her staff of hometown professionals give excellent care without losing the personal touch.

Nursing services offered at Horizon Home Health Care include nursing assessment, I.V. therapy, central line placement and care, diabetic teaching and monitoring, medication management, skin and wound care, pediatric and neonatal care, catheter and stoma care, terminal care, bowel and bladder care, venipuncture and respite care.

Horizon Home Health Care aides provide assistance with personal care.

Horizon accepts Medicare, Medicaid and private duty patients. Call 226-1919 in Orem and 798-3991 in Spanish Fork.
