ACTOR SUGGESTS SOLUTION TO L.A. WOES: MORE PARKS

To actor Ed Begley Jr., there's too much pavement and not enough park in la-la land.

"We're so spread out, you'd think we would have enough. But we don't," said Begley. As newly appointed chairman of the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy board, he wants to push for acquisition and preservation of more parks.

"Open space is the answer for so many ills," he said. "There'd be less smog. Now everyone's in their little metal boxes traveling from Point A to Point B. Why is it when you destroy property it's considered vandalism, but when we destroy nature it's called progress?" Begley said.
