BEING YOUNG AT HEART HELPS DINKINS TO RECOVER

David Dinkins attributes his speedy recovery from triple bypass surgery to being 68 years young.

The former New York mayor returned home Thursday after undergoing emergency surgery in South Carolina. He became faint while playing tennis in severe heat at a Hilton Head Island resort on Aug. 6 and was operated on four days later.

"Because I'm young, I'll progress more rapidly than most," the sexagenarian said as he left a Charleston, S.C., hospital. "I am a fortunate fellow."

Dinkins, who teaches at Columbia University, won't be on the courts any time soon as he continues to regain his strength, but he'll be in the stands when the U.S. Open comes to town in a couple of weeks.
