Unable to fill the void created by the departure of center fielder Brett Butler, the Dodgers re-acquired him Friday in a trade that sent two minor leaguers to the New York Mets.

Butler, 38, was batting .311 for the Mets with 21 stolen bases. One of the premier leadoff hitters of his era, Butler was the catalyst of the Los Angeles offense from 1991 to 1994.He returned to New York, where he was in the lineup in his familiar leadoff spot as the Dodgers opened a weekend series against the Mets at Shea Stadium.
