When is a residential building lot too large? When it's bigger than three-fourths of an acre, according to a recent decision by the City Council.

Craig Fisher wanted to rezone 6.3 acres near Fairfield Road and Boynton Road from agricultural to residential so he could create four lots on the land instead of three. However, that meant the minimum lot size would be reduced from essentially one acre to 30,000-square feet after subtracting the land needed for roads and other improvements. Several residents protested the rezone, believing it would pave the way for future smaller lots in their neighborhood, located near Fairfield Junior High School.

The City Council didn't agree and voted unanimously for the rezone.
