Though security at Salt Lake City International Airport is being beefed up as part of a national effort to thwart ter-rorism, local air travelers will notice little change in airport activities.

Airlines flying out of Salt Lake are requiring employees to ask commercial passengers a battery of questions, however, including whether they are carrying anyone else's baggage or whether their luggage has been in someone else's care.Airport television monitors and electronic signs are also cautioning travelers to keep an eye on their baggage.

"We're urging people to be more vigilant," said Ron Malin, operations superintendent for the Salt Lake City Airport Authority, noting that the federal government in early August ordered increased security at most airports in the wake of the arrest of a number of notorious international terrorists.
