Sanpete County will celebrate its annual get-together - the county fair - with six days jam packed with activity.
Fair time will open Monday evening Aug. 21, at the Snow College Activity Center with concerts at 7 and 9:30 by Rhett Akins and his band.The concerts will be followed on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Manti High School auditorium with the Sanpete County Farm Bureau talent find. Winners in three divisions will get awards and go on to state contest.
On Wednesday the Big Sky Carnival will open in the fairgrounds. They're also be team penning and other livestock events.
The fair's most popular event - the demolition derby - will have the drivers smashing their junkers in the quest for cash prizes in the $500 range.
The day will also have the first performances of local talent shows that continue the rest of the week in front of the exhibition building.
On Friday there'll be animal judging, a pet show, a cowboy poetry program and a livestock sale in the afternoon. And that night at 8 the Clegg Championship Rodeo will put on the first of two performances in the arena.
Saturday will have a car show, horse pulls, the parade down Manti's Main Street at 5 p.m. and then the second rodeo performance.
And when it's all over, according to county fair chairman Brad Bown, around $6,000 in cash and hundreds of red, white and blue ribbons will have been distributed to exhibitors.
