Hogle Zoo will hold an open house for docents from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Sept. 6, in the zoo auditorium.
Docents are volunteers who educate the public about wildlife, ecology and conservation.They work with small zoo animals and give presentations to groups in schools, hospitals and civic centers throughout the state.
They also handle day-to-day care and feeding of animals in their program such as snakes, iguanas, opossums, hedgehogs, ferrets, chinchillas, lizards, chuckawallas and tortoises.
Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age, work 100 hours each year and provide their own transportation and complete a 10-hour training program in which they meet two hours weekly.
