RIDE OF THE WEEK: BIG WATER TRAIL

DIRECTIONS: This ride begins at the top of Millcreek Canyon. Entrance is at 3800 S. and Wasatch Blvd. Drive to where pavement ends, about nine miles, to a parking area. There is a sign at the trailhead.

Description: This is one of the more popular close-to-home rides. A high-country tour that passes through some of Utah's most beautiful mountain scenery. The ride follows a well maintained single track that is 6 1/2 miles in length. When you come to an intersection, about 2.7 miles into the ride, pass straight through.

POINTS OF INTEREST: Trail passes by Dog Lake, a stream, over a foot bridge, and through open meadows of wildflowers and thick stands of trees. At the top of switchback, after intersection and southwest of the trail, is the Mount Olympus Wilderness area. Bikes are not allowed in this area.

ALSO: Cyclists are allowed on the trail on even numbered days only, so check the calendar. Fee to get into the canyon is $2.25 per vehicle. This is an out-and-back trail, so no shuttle is needed. Great place for a picnic before or after the ride. Very nice campgrounds. Ride between early June and late Sept. For information call 943-1794.
