Michigan football coach Fielding (Hurry Up) Yost was constantly dreaming up new plays to spring on the opposition. If an idea came to him in a public place away from the gridiron, it seemed perfectly natural to him to enlist the services of strangers for a run through.
Once, when he was in a hotel lobby, a pass play on which he had been working suddenly became clear to him. He jumped up from his chair, collared several people who were about and had them line up in formation. At this moment, a guest stepped out of the elevator and walked up to the desk.
"I'm checking out," he told the clerk.
Yost was at his side in a flash.
"Since you're leaving anyway," he said, "Would you mind playing left and pretend to catch a forward pass on your way out?
